Shriners Parade
Colorful Clowns, scooters and other Shrine parade regulars will take to the streets of Alpena on Saturday, May 31 at 1:30 p.m. for the Elf Khurafeh Shriners Parade. The parade is the grand finale for the Elf Kurafeh Shrine Spring Ceremonial which includes indoctrination of new members and a banquet. The Shrine of North America is known for its colorful parades, circuses and clowns. But there is also a serious side to this international fraternity. For more than 80 years, the Shrine has operated a network of specialized hospitals that treat children with orthopedic problems, burns and spinal cord injuries, up to their 18th birthday, free of charge. The parade only comes to Alpena every few years, so don't miss it! The parade begins at the County Annex Building parking lot, travels down River Street to Eight Avenue and then down Chisholm Street to Second Avenue, down Water Street and dispersing at the City Hall Parking lot.
