Special Events
It seems as though something special is always going on in Alpena. Festivals and events that celebrate Independence Day, antique steam engines, classic cars, lighthouses, Santa Claus, the Thunder Bay River, and a fish called “Big Brownie” are just a smattering of the special events that take place in Alpena year ‘round. Great performances at the Alpena Fine Arts Shell, Alpena High School Auditorium, the Alpena County Library and Alpena Community College’s Granum Theatre are scheduled throughout the year.

This tribute exhibit will try to share how encompassing this war really was. From the front line soldiers to the home front bond efforts, we will try to cover them all. The exhibit will consist of mostly "loaned" items from families and veterans themselves. Many of the items are very personal in nature and many are one of a kind.

Mike Lempinen grew up in Negaunee, Michigan and spent many hours exploring the lakes and the surrounding out-of-doors and began painting the lakes. The art works in this exhibit will include Mike’s sketches, drawings, watercolors, graphics, oils and some sculpture.
