Special Events

It seems as though something special is always going on in Alpena. Festivals and events that celebrate Independence Day, antique steam engines, classic cars, lighthouses, Santa Claus, the Thunder Bay River, and a fish called “Big Brownie” are just a smattering of the special events that take place in Alpena year ‘round.  Great performances at the Alpena Fine Arts Shell, Alpena High School Auditorium, the Alpena County Library and Alpena Community College’s Granum Theatre are scheduled throughout the year.

The American Red Cross is at a critically low level for O, B, and A negative blood and encourages all eligible donors with these blood types to make an appointment today to donate at a blood drive or donor center near them. During the summer months, the need for blood increases while the number of people donating decreases. The Great Lakes Region needs to collect approximately 700 units of blood a day to adequately supply our hospitals with the blood products they need to treat their patients.

Thank you for all you do to help support the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross!
