4th of July Weekend Events

Start your celebration on Friday and continue through to Sunday with these exciting events!!

2-3: Visions From the Fields of Merit at Besser Museum for NE Michigan ~ 10a.m.-5p.m. For info contact Amanda Dozier at 989-356-2202.

2-3: Summer View ~ "Show us your heART" at Art in the Loft Gallery 109 (inside the center building). Open Friday, Noon-9p.m. & Saturday, Noon-6p.m. 989-356-4877.

2-3: Readers Theatre "Listen to Radio Theatre: An Evening of Radio Mystery" at Alpena Civic Theatre - 7:30p.m. 989-354-3624.

2-3: Sweeney Todd the Musical at Thunder Bay Theatre, Saturday, 7:30p.m. & Sunday, 2p.m. 989-354-2267.

3: 2010 Dork Brothers Independence Day 5K Run/Walk - starting at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Registration begins at 7a.m. 989-354-5634.

3: Presque Isle Independence Day Picnic in Presque Isle. Children's Parade at 10:30a.m. Picnic fare from 11a.m.-3p.m. 989-595-5210. Fireworks will be at dusk at Presque Isle Harbor.

3: Christian Country Concert featuring Nashville recording artists “The Colmus Family” at 5:30p.m. at Bay View Park Band Shell in Alpena. Free will offering appreciated. Sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran Church. In the event of rain, concert will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 727 S. Second Ave.

4: Alpena's Sandcastle Contest - Registration begins at 8a.m. and judging will take place at 4p.m. Please call 989-356-6422 for more information.

4: Alpena's Lafarge 4th of July Parade begins at 1p.m. at the Alpena County Fairgrounds, then continues down 11th Ave. to Chisholm St. to 2nd Ave., cross the bridge, turn left on Fletcher. 989-354-4181.

4: Alpena Optimist Rubber Duckie Race - Tickets will be sold during the parade. The rubber ducks will be released from the 9th Street bridge following the parade, then float down the river to The Rotary Island Mill Park. 

4: VFW 3890 Pig Roast at 133 Fletcher St. immediately after the parade until food is gone. Lots of good food & beverages, along with beer tent, door prizes, silent auction and live entertainment. $7 per person for meal.

4: 10th Annual Thunder Bay Maritime Festival at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary/Heritage Center. www.thunderbay.noaa.gov 989-356-8805.

4: Alpena City Band Concert at the Bay View Park Band Shell at 5:30p.m.

4: True North Radio Network 2010 Summer Concert Series featuring "The Bon Journey's" a tribute to Bon Jovi & Journey. Free of charge at the Bay View Park Band Shell from 7p.m.-10p.m.

4: Alpena's 4th of July Fireworks ~ Join us for what is sure to be a thrilling evening for all!! Display will begin at dusk at the Alpena waterfront.
